Rally to Read 100 Books

February 15 @ 8:00 am - July 1 @ 5:00 pm

In this photo taken July 15, 2013, a child exits a bus decorated with a cartoon frog that serves as a mobile lunch vehicle in Federal Way, Wash. Four days a week this summer, the lime green school bus loaded with games, books and computers rumbles through low-income neighborhoods south of Seattle. Its aim isn't just to entertain kids, but to feed them. Only a fraction of the 21 million children who receive free or reduced-price lunches in school cafeterias around the U.S. are fed regularly over the summer. The federal government has been pushing to improve these numbers, but child advocates say it will take more creativity to reach beyond the about 3.5 million kids who eat at summer food programs according to recent statistics.(AP Photo/Elaine Thompson)

Join Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) for its second year of Rally to Read 100, aimed at fostering a love of reading among children across the country. With six months of exciting themes, read-alouds from your favorite authors, and a variety of engaging reading activities, together we can inspire a joy of reading. Be sure to take the pledge to read 100 books (a class, family, student, or anyone can take the pledge) and educators can enter the book giveaway sweepstakes for a chance to win 100 books for their school or organization. There is no better time to rally to read!
