Iggy Pop Receives 2022 Polar Music Prize At Gala Ceremony In Sweden

Iggy Pop Receives 2022 Polar Music Prize At Gala Ceremony In Sweden

Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf presented the Polar Music Prize to Iggy Pop at a gala ceremony held at the Grand Hotel in Stockholm, Sweden, on Tuesday, May 24.

"Recognition is a hard mistress," Pop said in his acceptance speech. Referring to his Swedish connections, the punk legend added, "Ada Osterberg, a Swedish émigré to the U.S., adopted my father James.[Ada] was a Red Cross nurse and raised my dad during the great depression. These were great people, real people."

"I am neither great nor real. At this point, I am a myth," he continued. "Happily, music is a form of myth. All beauty derives from believing in myth. But every so often, you gotta get real - like balls. That's how I got here. So when you think about music, when you think about this prize and if you remember me, think about the balls."

Parisian classical musical collective Ensemble Intercontemporain, Iggy Pop's joint 2022 Laureate, and Diane Warren, the winner of the award in 2020, were also presented the Polar Music Prize.

The 2020 award ceremony was twice postponed due to the pandemic.

The Polar Music Prize, founded by ABBA's Stig "Stikkan" Anderson, is an annual award given to one popular music artist and one classical artist.

Pop, whose original name is James Newell Osterberg, Jr., won the award in pop music category.

Paris Jackson Pays Tribute To Nirvana's 'Sliver' In New 'Lighthouse' Video

Paris Jackson Pays Tribute To Nirvana's 'Sliver' In New 'Lighthouse' Video

The new visual for Paris Jackson's "Lighthouse," released recently, sees the singer paying tribute to Nirvana's "Sliver" video.

The video, directed by Johann Rashid, finds Jackson and her band rocking out in a knickknack-filled basement that features magazine cutouts on the wall. A photo of Kurt Cobain appears as well at one point, referencing the "Sliver" connection.

"I continued to write about this same old heartbreak that [2020 debut album] 'Wilted' is about," Jackson said, connecting the dots between her debut album and her latest track. "A lot of the new songs coming out are similar stories about the same person and heartbreak. I guess I'm just exploring different feelings. 'Wilted' was a more melancholy record, and now I'm exploring more of the anger."

"I can feel the lights go low/ But I don't wanna let go now/ Maybe if I turn around, you'll see me/ And what you used to be/ Your wave keeps crashing in a changeless sea/ And I can't help but feel it's drowning me/ No, I can't breathe/ The oil's burnt in the lighthouse, my ship wrecked on your teeth," Jackson sings over powerful distorted guitar riffs.

"Lighthouse" is the lead single off Jackson's forthcoming as-yet-untitled EP. She released her debut studio album Wilted in 2020 and her The Lost EP earlier this year.

Kardashian and Barker shared photos of themselves on Instagram, captioning their post, "happily ever after."

"Introducing Mr. And Mrs. Barker," Kardashian wrote in another post with more pictures.

In the surreal snapshots, the newlyweds are seen encircled by an ornate golden altar with dozens of candles, beautiful red roses, and lush greenery.

Mötley Crüe's Vince Neil Join Tour Opener Classless Act On New Single

Mötley Crüe's Vince Neil joined the band's summer tour openers Classless Act on their new single, also titled "Classless Act."

Neil lends his vocals at the half-way mark of the song, amid the wailing guitars, with a sketch of his face appearing in the video that features a courtroom scene.

"This song really is a musical expression of who we are," Classless Act singer Derek Day said in a statement. "It's a little dirty, maybe kinda sloppy and probably needs a good night's sleep and a shower, and it absolutely kicks ass. Every night. Just like us."

"What drew me is that these are young guys playing real rock 'n' roll, playing their own instruments, all that good stuff that you miss from the last 20-plus years. These guys remind me of Motley Crue growing up and they definitely rock. Can't wait to see what happens in the future," Neil added.

"Classless Act" appears on the band's upcoming debut LP, Welcome to the Show, due out on June 24.

Kurt Cobain's Guitar From 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' Video Sells For $4.5 Million

Kurt Cobain's Guitar From 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' Video Sells For $4.5 Million

The electric guitar that Kurt Cobain played in the 1991 video for "Smells Like Teen Spirit" has been sold for $4.5 million.

The late Nirvana frontman used the left-handed guitar during both the Nevermind and In Utero recording sessions as well as numerous prominent live performances.

The iconic 1969 Fender Mustang, which was originally estimated to be auctioned for around $600,000, fetched more than seven times the expectation during the Music Icons auction at Julien's Auctions on Sunday.

The Jim Irsay Collection of Indianapolis was the highest bidder among collectors who participated in the online and over-the-phone auction.

"To have this legendary guitar, one of the most culturally significant and historically important guitars of Kurt Cobain and in all of rock music history return to my home state of Indiana to be part of Jim Irsay's renowned memorabilia collection is a great honor and personal highlight of my life," said Darren Julien, president and chief executive officer of Julien's Auctions.

He added, "This once-in-a-lifetime auction has been one of the greatest privileges in my professional career and I'm duly pleased that the proceeds will also bring much needed attention to mental health awareness."

KISS Perform In First Clip From Neil Bogart Biopic 'Spinning Gold'

KISS Perform In First Clip From Neil Bogart Biopic 'Spinning Gold'

The first clip previewing Spinning Gold, a biopic about Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart, features a live performance from KISS.

The biopic was first conceived in 1990. After several drafts, multiple castings and a decades-long search for the right director, the movie has finally arrived with Neil's son Tim Bogart directing the project.

"Born Neil Bogatz in the Brooklyn projects where he plotted his dreams and schemes to escape from poverty, Neil Bogart was my father - and it's taken me over twenty years to finally tell his story," Tim Bogart said of the project.

"And I know people say that all the time, but the first option on the film really was back in 1999," he added. "From there, through obstacles nearly as challenging as what my father faced in bringing Casablanca Records to the world, the obstacles in bringing this film to light were just as daunting."

The footage, premiered by Variety, captures a live performance by "Kiss" (a group of actors pretending to be the iconic band), while Bogart, played by Jeremy Jordan, watches from backstage.

Yungblud Announces Self-Titled Third Album

Yungblud Announces Self-Titled Third Album

Yungblud has announced that his new self-titled album will be released on September 2 via Locomotion/Geffen Records.

The rocker shared the news about his third studio album in a livestream in the midst of being tattooed on his ribcage by famous tattoo artist Emily Malice.

Yungblud, who was born Dominic Harrison, issued a statement on Instagram regarding the upcoming album, saying, "Everything up to this moment has been a complete explosion of uncensored expression, where I just told the truth and sang about what I felt in that exact moment."

"The difference here is that i have thought and felt this record so deeply. i went to a part of myself that I didn't know was there. i studied it, i bathed in the emotion, tried to solve the equation and come up with an answer (at least for now) from love to pain, adoration to abandonment, laughter to betrayal," he added.

The reason why he titled the album YUNGBLUD is "because nothing in my life has ever made more sense," according to the 24 year old musician.

Yungblud, who is currently on the European leg of his Life On Mars world tour, will start the North American leg on September 13, following the release of the new album.
