Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, & Jon Batiste Win Oscar For Best Original Score

Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, and Jon Batiste took home the award for Best Original Score at 2021 Oscars.

The trio won the Academy Award for their work on the Pixar film Soul. They previously won the Golden Globe for the score.

Nine Inch Nails‘ Reznor and Ross had earned two Oscar nominations in the Best Original Score category, for both Mank and Soul. Reznor and Ross had previously won Best Original Score at the 83rd Oscars for their work on the biographical drama The Social Network.

Batiste also made history by becoming only the second black composer to win best original score at the Oscars after Herbie Hancock won in 1986 for Round Midnight.

Soul trumped competition from Emile Mosseri‘s Minari, Terence Blanchard‘s Da 5 Bloods, James Newton Howard‘s News of the World, and another Reznor/Ross collaboration Mank.
