Anytime you get to see KISS live, and in makeup, it’s a good night. When you get to see KISS in a small venue, like Sunday night at Morongo, it’s amazing. First of all, it’s KISS, and second of all…
… never mind, we can stop after the first part – It’s. Freaking. KISS!!!
If you’ve seen a KISS show then you know how they start. Right before the fabric drops you hear “You wanted the best, you got the best…. KISS!”, and then you are in for the ride of your life. Photographing KISS in makeup has been a bucket list item for me. I have photographed their acoustic show a few times, but I had also seen the full show a few times, and I wanted to try and capture that energy – and yes, there is an energy at a KISS show like no other band.
Monday night we had the added bonus a small venue. I am not exactly sure, but I think it was less than 3,000 people. If you look at the gallery below you will see a photo of the room before it filled with fans. Did I mention the fans? I love KISS fans. There were small kids dress for Halloween, and adults that had old style KISS Army cards and KISS Wallets – and all of them were fantastic.
If you have not seen a KISS show, I don’t know what to tell you other than do it. It is worth every penny. As a photographer, they are the most amazing artists to photograph. We were only allowed two songs, and with KISS that isn’t very long, but the band played to our cameras. On the shot below Paul looked at me and just waited, as if to say “get your wide angle ready”. I’ve never seen anything like it.
I have to say thank you to Morongo Casino. They were so great to work with, and put on a great show. I need to see more shows there, and they get some big artists too. Below is gallery of photos, including larger versions of the ones above. Hope you enjoy them, and if you were at the show, please let me know how you liked it below.
