A Young Voice with a Classic Sound – Meet Gabbie Rae

By Razz on

You may recall that last year’s musical artist at the Stu, Tiffany, & Jimbo Holiday Ball was Great White. If you were there, then you know how good they sounded. Well, after photographing that event for KCAL, I wanted to take more photos of the band, and I saw that they were playing at the House of Blues in Anaheim. I was luck enough to score a photo pass that night, and they were just as good.

One thing that really stuck out however was the opening act at the House of Blues, a young girl by the name of Gabbie Rae. Some of my fav shots of all time were from that performance, and I have been hoping to shoot the act again. You can check out those shots from the last show here.

I have watched over the past year as Gabbie has opened for Vince Neil, and others. She even played the Monsters of Rock Cruise, which you should check out – and don’t forget that the current KCAL Workforce getaway is to another Monsters of Rock Cruise! And recently, she was signed for management by none other than Wendy Dio – yes, THAT Wendy Dio.

This past Saturday she was back the House of Blues in Anaheim, to open for Stryper, and Gabbie Rae’s mom was kind enough to help me get photo access. Truth is, I really wanted to shoot Gabbie’s show, but I did stay to shoot Stryper’s set too, and it was great. I am not a follower of Stryper, but these guys really perform.

Back to Gabbie… A lot is made of her age, and she is young as “real” rockers go, but this girl is heading for major success. She has that classic rock vibe and sound, which is in part because of her great band. Along with the amazing guitarist Toni Aleman (pictured above), the band consists of Julia Lage on Bass, Sam Bam Koltun on Guitar, and Shad Wilhelm on Drums. Top musicians all, and in fact Toni will be touring this year with Juan Croucier’s RATT.

Last, I want to add one more thing… these people are actually really nice people. That is not always the case in rock, but my interactions with them have been nothing short of surprising. Below is a gallery of shots from the show, a mix of both Gabbie Rae and the headliner – Stryper. If you’ve seen her, let me know in the comments below!
