Sunday night the Summerland Tour hit the Riverside Municipal Auditorium for it’s final show of the year. The brainchild of Everclear’s Art Alexakis and Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath, Summerland Tour has been around since 2012. With a focus on 90’s style Alt Rock, over the years the tour has featured some of my favorite bands, like LIVE, Lit, Soul Asylum, Gin Blossoms, Filter, Sponge, and of course Everclear.
This year’s lineup was fantastic, with American Hi-Fi, Fuel, The Toadies, and Everclear. Art Alexakis introduced all of the acts, with the exception of his own band, For that, American Hi-Fi vocalist Stacy Jones did the honors, and he’s the current drummer for Everclear.
I still can’t believe we are getting shows like this in Riverside. All the bands sounded great, which is the norm at the RMA, but Fuel’s “Hemorrhage (In My Hands)” really got the crowd going.
By the time The Toadies (still not clear if it’s with or without the “The”) hit the stage the room was ready, and when they started “Possum Kingdom”, I think everyone in the room knew every word.
Everclear had a set list that was pure hits. From “Heroin Girl” and “Father of Mine”, to “Buy You a New Life” and Santa Monica”. It was a great show, and I suggest hitting the Summerland Tour site so that you know when it comes around next year.
