This is part 2… The Headliners!

Last weekend the Mayhem Festival hit San Manuel Amphitheater to kick off the 2014 tour. This was my second year shooting photos at Mayhem, and the fact that they kick it off in San Bernardino is fantastic. If you’re into heavy music, then you are most likely familiar with the Mayhem Festival, but if not, I will try to sum it up for you.

Mayhem Festival is a full day in the Southern California summer sun, in Southern California heat. This year was not nearly as hot as last year, but it’s still hot.

The setup consists of 3 stages out by the San Manuel Amphitheater VIP parking lot, which is a large grass field. Those stages have a non-stop schedule of 15 bands, with the last band ending just after 6 pm. Then, at 6:30 the Main Stage (pictured above)  kicks off with a few openers followed by 2 Headliners. This year, The Headliners were Korn & Avenged Sevenfold. In the first post, available here, you can find photos of the opening acts. In this Part 2 post, I have some Korn and A7X photos for you.

I was able to shoot photos at a Korn show a few years back, in Las Vegas. I have wanted to do it again ever since! These guys rock! All I can say is if you ever get the chance…. see them. They are the main reason I wanted to do photos at Mayhem this year.

Avenged Sevenfold

I have also shot photos of A7X before, at the same show I as Korn in Vegas, and at the CBBA once with Asking Alexandria, who was at this year’s Mayhem too (photos are in part 1).

This is another fantastic band live. This year they did something that really surprised me too. Normally when you shoot photos at a concert you are only allowed to shoot the first 3 songs. As we were waiting to be escorted in we were told the band had requested that the photographers get 4 songs. That is unusual, and it was very nice of them.

Did you go to Mayhem Fest this year? If so leave any comments below, and be sure to check out Part 1 of this post – The Opening Acts – available here.
