Riverside Mayor Rusty Bailey with K-1 Fighter Joey Pagliuso

I have been into Martial Arts since the late 80′s, and the son of the owner where I train has become one of the world’s best. Riverside native Joey Pagliuso has risen to the kickboxing world’s elite ranks. Pagliuso will be representing the United States in the prestigious K-1 “World Max Final 16″ in Mallorca Spain on September 14, 2013. K-1 has, for nearly 20 years, held tournaments in 38 countries. As the first American fighter in over 10 years to advance to the K-1 Final 16, Pagliuso is also only the second US fighter to ever qualify.

The son of Joe & Sandra Pagliuso, founders of Riverside’s respected USKO Martial Arts Schools, Joey is married to the reigning Mrs. Riverside – Desiree Pagliuso-Nava (yeah, our hometown boy does well). Joey grew up learning Karate from the time he could walk, and graduated from Riverside’s Ramona High School.A longtime fan of K-1, Joey hoped to one day fight for the prestigious promotion. He is the current holder of the MTAA National Welterweight Title – photos are here. Then, after a number of years fighting on the Muay Thai circuit, in the fall of 2012 Joey was invited to fight in K-1′s celebrated return to the US – “K-1 Rising” at the LA Sports Arena – photos are here. With a KO win over Ben Yelle at “K-1 Rising”, Joey moved on to the K-1 World Max Qualifiers in Calgary Canada, where he defeated Canada’s own Mukai Maromo via knockout.
