Last week at The Hollywood Bowl, the band Journey headlined a show that featured two other bands – Night Ranger & Foreigner – from what many consider one of the best eras of rock. I would guess that Journey, Night Ranger and Foreigner are on as many iPods today as any other band. Everyone knows the songs:

Night Ranger

When You Close Your Eyes
Sister Christian
Don’t Tell Me You Love Me
(You Can Still) Rock In America

The opening act was Night Ranger, and as expected, they delivered. Here are a few shots:

Foreigner

Feels Like the First Time
Cold As Ice
Hot Blooded
Double Vision
Waiting for a Girl Like You
Juke Box Hero
I Want to Know What Love Is

Next up was Foreigner, and I have to say… These guys perform. I wish I had as much energy as singer Kelly Hansen. Some people may wonder if they can pull it off without Lou Gramm, and I am here to say a loud yes.

Journey

Only the Young
Don’t Stop Believin’
Wheel in the Sky
Faithfully
Any Way You Want It
Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)
Lights Listen
Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’
Open Arms
Send Her My Love
Be Good to Yourself

When you say the name Journey to any music fan, they know exactly who you are talking about. Journey is one of the most successful bands of all time. Yeah, Foreigner and Night Ranger have had huge success, but Journey is different. Journey does not have a history of hits, they have a history of anthems.

And, much has been said in the history of music about trying to replace iconic lead singers. Very few have succeeded – AC/DC, Foreigner, √ā¬†Van Halen. Journey, in my opinion, may be the most successful. I admit it, I was wondering how singer Arnel Pineda would do. I had heard all the rave reviews, but the story of Neal Schon seeing him on YouTube singing covers of Journey songs was just unbelievable. I saw the original band live, and this guys had big shoes to fill. I’m sold. As I watched this band perform I was thinking could they, could Pineda, be better than the original? They might be. If you get the chance… see Journey live.
