You know that new sound you were looking for, well listen to Volbeat.  A Danish band formed in Copenhagen in 2001, combine Rock N Roll, Heavy Metal, Punk and Rockabilly into their own unique sound.  As Volbeat vocalist/guitarist Michael Poulsen said from stage “we just play Volbeat music”.

They blew the roof off of the House of Blues in Anaheim this past Saturday Night (4/9/11).  I’ve been a fan of theirs since 2007 and was stoked at the opportunity to finally see them live and they did not let me down.   Every song different from the next, but yet the same, just Volbeat doing their thing.  They flip music styles at will, without calculation, just playing what they feel and at the drop of the dime.  One minute is super brutal heavy metal with double bass and then twenty seconds later it’s a huge sing-along chorus.

They got some help on stage from opening band The Damned Things/Anthrax guitarists on two seperate times.  Rob Caggiano came out for a misfits cover “Angelf*ck” and Scott Ian came out for the Dusty Springfield cover “I only wanna be with you”.  They were also filming the show that night, hopefully for a live DVD in the near future.
If you’re looking for something new, give Volbeat a listen, I guarantee you won’t be disapointed.  Mike Z
