Howdy, y’all! I’m Lefty Turns, yer NASCAR Race Reporter fer 96-7 KCAL Rocks! It’s my favorite time of year, so git in, sit down, hold on, and pull those straps tight, cuz it’s time to start those engines and fire up another excitin’ season of NASCAR! I’ll be checkin’ in each week witha recap of Sunday’s racin’ and a look ahead at what’s around the bend, but first, let’s take a gander at what NASCAR’s been up to since we were last at the track.
ONE OR THE OTHER -
No more double dippin’ in the NASCAR trophy case. Back in the day, wheel men could race in the Truck Series, Nationwide, and Sprint Cup circuits and compete for the championship in all 3. Kiss those days goodbye. Drivers will now hafta choose which series they’ll be dukin’ it out for the championship in, and won’t earn any points in the other. This’ll put the young guns of the Nationwide Series back in the spotlight and chase the “Buschwhackers” back to the big leagues where they belong. Rowdy Busch ain’t gonna be happy about this one.
WILD CARDS -
Since Mike Helton & friends introduced THE CHASE, drivers had to make the top 12 in points by race 26 to get in the big dance for the Sprint Cup. In 2011 we’ll still see the top 10, but the last two spots will be given to the guys with the most WINS that are NOT in the top 10. Looks like McMurray missin’ the Chase after dominating Daytona and kissin’ the bricks at Indy got the attention of the honchos upstairs. Racin’s finally ’bout winnin’ again!
That should git y’all started fer now, but I’ll be back tomorrah with more NASCAR learnin’ for 2011 and a peek at the COT‘s new grill. Until then… here’s yer homework. Go watch DAYS OF THUNDER till ya start sayin’ stuff like “Rubbin’, son, is racin‘”.
