For the end of the world stuff,  according to the great ancient Mayan Calendar the end of the humanity era that we live in now will end.  Apparently these guys were hardcore astronomers and their calendar is still considered the most accurate one ever created.  So in 2012 the Mayans predicted that the sun would shift and a bunch of violent earthquakes would occur.  Want to know more about this?  Click below:

All right, you’ve guess that next year will be a leap year.  We will have an extra day in February – the 29th (oh great, another day to get older!).  Apparently our current calendar is not as accurate as the one made by those smart-ass Mayans!  With our current Gregorian Calendar we have to add an extra day each year to stay in sync with the astronomical calendar (there’s that astronomy thing again).   It’s pretty interesting stuff if you’ve got the time to read about it.  Here’s the link to the info on leap year:
