That’s Super Saver winning last year’s 136th Kentucky Derby

I love everything about the Kentucky Derby.  I’ve always loved horses.  Growing up in Corona but just on the border of Norco,  my friends had horses.  So I got exposed to horses early.  Then there’s the gambling aspect of it – FUN!  And the location:  Churchhill Downs is a spectacular  place and track in Louisville, Kentucky.  And on Kentucky Derby Saturday (the first Saturday in May) everyone dresses up in their Sunday best.  I always wanted to wear one of those big hats!  And lastly, the mint juleps, the drink of the Kentucky Derby.  What’s not to love?

My plans to attend the Derby this year didn’t quite pan out.  A  single ticket for the race starts in the hundreds and goes in to the thousands.  Hotel rates are jacked up way high because of the event.  Airfare to Louisville is not cheap either.  Then the car rental.   Everything added up to be in the thousands.  Maybe next year?  After I win the lotto?

So “The Run for The Roses” in its 137th year is this Saturday, May 7th.  It will be broadcast on NBC.  Their Kentucky Derby “Red Carpet Special” starts at 2 p.m. our time.  Post time for the race is at 3:24 p.m. (again, our time).

Want to get out and watch it somewhere in the Inland Empire?

Make plans to be at the Martin A. Matich Sports Center inside the National Orange Show grounds in San Bernardino.  It’s a great place to watch any horse race but they really do it up for the Kentucky Derby.  Click the link below to get all the info.

So enjoy one of America’s greatest events this Saturday when you watch the Kentucky Derby.  And just one more, thing…my favorite horse of all time and it is a good movie!

The awesome Secretariat.  And a link to the Disney movie which I thought was very good.
