STJ’s sports reporter, Pep Fernandez from the Riverside Press Enterprise, caught up with Angels pitcher Tommy Hanson recently…does he remember talking to The Stuman and Jimbo back at Spring Training?
David “Deacon” Jones passed away from natural causes last night here in So Cal at the age of 74. He was credited for terming “sack” because of the manor in which he took out quarterbacks. Jones was a member of the L.A. Rams Fearsome Foursome from 1961 to 1971. After his kick-ass football career you may have seen him on TV or in the movies as he dabbled at acting. Jump ahead for more info about one of the NFL’s most legendary players.
Last Thursday night, San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino hosted the M-One “Reborn” Muay Thai event. There were nine great bouts, with seven of the nine being for a title. Six of the fights ended with either a KO, or a TKO, and last fight with the Inland Empire’s own Joey Pagliuso ended with a knockout that actually worried people. Starting the night, Eric Luna defeated David Huerta for the MTAA National Junior Lightweight Title…

This past weekend it was Metallica Day at AT&T Park, home of the San Francisco Giants. Check out their sweet rendition on the National Anthem:
They were giving out some totally cool Metallica/Giants hats, and Daryl scored one!
And check out our Grand Prize winner of KCAL Workforce Getaway #2, Daniel givens of San Bernardino, who made some killer custom KCAL T-Shirts with his wife just so they could be representing at the game!
Apparently, Daryl was enjoying the beers up there in San Francisco!
And then there’s Lars..kinda throwing out the first pitch:
Ok, we’ll just say it was a big looping curve ball that caught the corner of the plate…
Metallica Night happens at AT & T Park in San Francisco in conjunction with the Dodgers/Giants game tomorrow night. Big congrats to the winner of KCAL Workforce Getaway #2 who’ll be flying up there for the fun. Metallica is getting geared up for the event by releasing a video of them jammimg with Giants pitcher, Barry Zito. Pretty cool!
They’ll also be auctioning off the custom guitars they use to perform the National Anthem…

See that? That is what Vance Albitz’s living room is looking like lately. If we have our way, it is gonna look a lot more packed than that in the next few days! I don’t know if you had a chance to hear him with Stu, Tiffany, and Jimbo this morning, but that is a young man with a great plan. After reading an article asking some of our troops what they would most like to get in a box from home where the answer was “A couple of gloves and a ball so we could play catch”, Vance started up the Gloves4Troops web site with his father, and set a goal of collecting 1000 gloves and balls to send out to our troops overseas. Such a pure and simple joy, playing catch, and all of us here at KCAL were moved to find some way to help out. Now Vance plays minor league ball in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, and he’s got to report to spring training on February 18th, so it’s up to us to help him get closer to his goal before then.
If you’ve got an old glove taking up space in the garage, or a few baseballs that are in good shape that you could manage to live without, or if you’ve got 20 bucks that you could kick down to help sponsor sending a box to our troops overseas, please help out. Check out his web site to see how to get your things to him, or bring your gloves or balls down to the station and we’ll get them to him for you. To make it even easier for you to join the effort, we’ll be sending the KCAL Crew out to the various corners of the I.E. over the next few days. Listen in to find out when we’ll be in your neighborhood! Here’s a really cool article that was written about Vance on ESPN too…
