I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Six Flags announced yesterday that after 36 years they’re closing the legendary Collossus Roller Coaster at Magic Mountain in Valencia as of August. Yeah, there are newer and crazier roller coasters, but damn, I know a lot of us are gonna miss the old wooden monster! I was there in the summer of 1978 when it opened, and can’t count how many times I bounced around in those uncomfortable cars. Might need to hit the park one more time before it goes away. Here’s some front seat video to remind you of what its like…

We had a great time hangng out with everyone at the Redlands Chili Cook-Off and Car Show this past weekend at Sylvan Park in Redlands! The weather was perfect for plenty of cold beers and live rockin’ from The Yard Dogs, plus the KCAL Chili won 1st Place!

We’re already making plans to be there again next year, and we hope the Redlands Optomist Club raised a ton of cash to help kids in the Inland Empire. Thanks to all the KCAL Rockers that came out for the fun. You Rock!

James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett

For the second year in a row, Metallica hosted Metallica Night at AT&T Park in San Francisco a couple of weeks ago. And once again this year we sent a lucky KCAL Rocker up to enjoy the fun and a great weekend in the City By The Bay. But if you didn’t win, the band is offering up a free download of their version of the National Anthem they performed before the game. Watch it on the video below, and then grab the MP3 here!

A little something for you as we kick into a Zep At The Top Weekend, it isn’t very often that you get to hear a rare previously unreleased instrumental song that Led Zeppelin recorded during the session for Zep II, but that is exactly what you have above. It’s a song called “La La” and it is included on the companion disc on the Led Zeppelin II re-issue coming out on Tuesday. Part of it sounds absolutely “Zeppy” and part absolutely doesn’t. Listen for your chance to win ‘em before you can buy ‘em all weekend. And catch the special with more of the cool stuff you’ll be getting on the re-issues of the first 3 albums and interviews with Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones tonight at 11pm with Patrick and then again on Sunday morning at 7am with Razz. Enjoy the Hammer of the Gods dropping on the IE at the top of every hour this weekend!

Here’s some more details on the previously unreleased tune from Rolling Stone magazine.

The Foo Fighters have been setting up shop in the desert to record their new album, and little bits of info keep trickling out via social media. First it was a shot of some master tapes referring to their 8th album.

Next there was a shot of Dave messing around with a bb gun, and those that have been there saw that they were working at the Rancho de la Luna Studios in Joshua Tree:

And earlier today, Joe Walsh posted on Twitter a shot of him with Taylor Hawkins and Dave Grohl saying, “Look who I ran into in Joshua Tree!”:

He later told the Hollywood Reporter, “I was a Foo Fighter for two days and played on a track of theirs that’s gonna come out.”.

Oh, and now we see that there is going to be an HBO show documenting the making of the new album!

Can’t wait to hear it!

Jimmy Page told The Pulse Of Radio that after all the success LED ZEPPELIN had, the real reward has been that the music has lasted so long. “The most satisfying, the most rewarding part of it, is having been part of music like that, which has stood up to the test of time,” he said. “Every musician hopes that their music will hold up. And it’s wonderful.”

Page, who produced all of LED ZEPPELIN’s live and studio albums, has served as the band’s chief archivist and personally oversaw the remastering of the band’s catalog back in the early ’90s.

Best of all, listen to KCAL for your chance to win ‘em all before you can buy them the weekend of May 31st!
