Everybody ready to fire up the grill, grab some cold ones, and hang out with friends and family as we celebrate the birthday of this great nation? Perfect! All you need now is to figure out where you’re gonna watch things explode in the sky, so here’s a great list of the fireworks displays happening around the IE: (click read more for all the details)
Check out this shot of KCAL at the US Festival! Thanks to KCAL rocker Sean Syfers for finding this picture and sharing it with us for Throwback Thursday. You Rock, Sean! Now, do you wanna really trip out? We recently got a message from a listener asking if we wanted an old banner of ours back. He said his uncle and some friends had had stolen it from the US Festival on a dare, and it has been moving around garages of the IE for 30 something years ever since. Sadly, the uncle is in failing health and wanted to clear his conscience before he passed away, so he told his nephew to return the banner. The nephew (who wanted to remain anonymous, but is a really good guy) dropped it off:
And here it is with 4orty and Daryl holding it. The old Rock Spectrum lives in the new studio!!!
Who knew? Apparently Pink Floyd made an official promo video for Money from the legendary Dark Side of the Moon album back in 1973, but it has somehow managed to not be available on the internet until now. So let’s check it out and see how they did with the 41 year old technology:

I never personally knew Tony Gwynn, but somehow he still seemed like a friend. Perhaps this is because I grew up in San Diego and I idolized him. Pretending I was him when I played little league or throwing pop flies to myself in the backyard while doing my best Jerry Coleman impression as I announced; “Oh Doctor! What a play by Tony Gwynn!” I even wore #19 because of him.
In the video above Keith Olbermann does a fundamental job painting the picture of who Tony really was. RIP friend, there will never be another one like you.
Soundgarden’s legendary Superunknown album is celebrating its 20 anniversary this year, so Chris Cornell is breaking out some details about it that you probably didn’t know…like the clown that inspired the album’s name! Here’s some more on the album from Rolling Stone magazine
I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Six Flags announced yesterday that after 36 years they’re closing the legendary Collossus Roller Coaster at Magic Mountain in Valencia as of August. Yeah, there are newer and crazier roller coasters, but damn, I know a lot of us are gonna miss the old wooden monster! I was there in the summer of 1978 when it opened, and can’t count how many times I bounced around in those uncomfortable cars. Might need to hit the park one more time before it goes away. Here’s some front seat video to remind you of what its like…
