Check out this shot of KCAL at the US Festival! Thanks to KCAL rocker Sean Syfers for finding this picture and sharing it with us for Throwback Thursday. You Rock, Sean! Now, do you wanna really trip out? We recently got a message from a listener asking if we wanted an old banner of ours back. He said his uncle and some friends had had stolen it from the US Festival on a dare, and it has been moving around garages of the IE for 30 something years ever since. Sadly, the uncle is in failing health and wanted to clear his conscience before he passed away, so he told his nephew to return the banner. The nephew (who wanted to remain anonymous, but is a really good guy) dropped it off:
And here it is with 4orty and Daryl holding it. The old Rock Spectrum lives in the new studio!!!
Last week, the Vans Warped Tour hit the Pomona Fairplex for a full day of Metal, Metalcore, and fun. This was my 3rd year shooting photos at Warped, and it was by far one of the best. Someone asked me recently if the Warped crowd was mostly teenagers, and the answer is yes, but that doesn’t leave the rest of us out.
“Warped offers one complimentary parent admission to accompany a minor (under 18) that has purchased a ticket to a 2014 Warped Tour show.”
The reason that matters is…
I never personally knew Tony Gwynn, but somehow he still seemed like a friend. Perhaps this is because I grew up in San Diego and I idolized him. Pretending I was him when I played little league or throwing pop flies to myself in the backyard while doing my best Jerry Coleman impression as I announced; “Oh Doctor! What a play by Tony Gwynn!” I even wore #19 because of him.
In the video above Keith Olbermann does a fundamental job painting the picture of who Tony really was. RIP friend, there will never be another one like you.

King of the Cage Jr. Welter Weight Champion Josh Aveles is all set to defend his tonight at San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino at King of the Cage’s “Slugfest”. But before he steps into the cage tonight he stepped into the KCAL Studio with us…
If you missed it on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, you are not going to believe what happens towards the end of the video! More cowbell anyone?
Last night up in San Francisco, James Hetfield showed up to help out Sammy Hagar’s Acoustic-4-A-Cure benefit concert to raise money to fight pediatric cancer. This is a little of what he decided to break out in a rare solo appearance.
Check out the details and some other highlights from the show last night at Rolling Stone’s web site.
