I had a great opportunity to chat with Tom Dumont of No Doubt. Great guy, great band and super easy to talk to. He was kind enough to talk with 96.7 KCAL Rocks ahead of the line of other people waiting to interview him.

Riverside officer Michael Crain, who was gunned down sitting at a red light on his routine patrol Feb. 7th by fugitive Christopher Dorner. Michael Crain was a true local hero, a Marine as well as a police officer, who lost his life doing what he loved, protecting and serving our community.

The funeral and memorial service for Officer Crain are to be held Wednesday Feb. 13th, 2013.

His wife, Regina Crain, and the family hopes that those who want to attend will show support by waiving an American Flag or wear some form of red, white and blue to show how deeply we care about our fallen hero.

See that? That is what Vance Albitz’s living room is looking like lately. If we have our way, it is gonna look a lot more packed than that in the next few days! I don’t know if you had a chance to hear him with Stu, Tiffany, and Jimbo this morning, but that is a young man with a great plan. After reading an article asking some of our troops what they would most like to get in a box from home where the answer was “A couple of gloves and a ball so we could play catch”, Vance started up the Gloves4Troops web site with his father, and set a goal of collecting 1000 gloves and balls to send out to our troops overseas. Such a pure and simple joy, playing catch, and all of us here at KCAL were moved to find some way to help out. Now Vance plays minor league ball in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, and he’s got to report to spring training on February 18th, so it’s up to us to help him get closer to his goal before then.

If you’ve got an old glove taking up space in the garage, or a few baseballs that are in good shape that you could manage to live without, or if you’ve got 20 bucks that you could kick down to help sponsor sending a box to our troops overseas, please help out. Check out his web site to see how to get your things to him, or bring your gloves or balls down to the station and we’ll get them to him for you. To make it even easier for you to join the effort, we’ll be sending the KCAL Crew out to the various corners of the I.E. over the next few days. Listen in to find out when we’ll be in your neighborhood! Here’s a really cool article that was written about Vance on ESPN too…

People are fretting and panicking over the recent chicken wing shortage. Twenty-six thousand pounds of wings were robbed from a storage facility in Georgia over the weekend. Who keeps their wings in a storage facility? Have you seen the people who frequent those places? I don’t want my wings sitting around in dead Grandma’s old dusty possessions.

I digress…”officials” (who are these people really?) are saying that the chicken population is down by one-percent and there will be fewer wings available to the public for consumption on Sunday for the big game. People are beside themselves over this horrifying, heart-rending news.

They say these numbers will continue to lower until there are no wings left and we’ll have to import our wings from Canada at a higher price. Only the very wealthy will be able to afford and enjoy the delicacy that is Chicken Wings.

People all over will resort to acts of severe desperation. People will start to wing hoard. There will be chickens running around with no wings. People will start to pass off the wings of common birds like blackbirds and finches as chicken wings. Manufactured birds will become the norm. Mayhem will ensue.

The only way to stop this madness is to slowly ween yourself off chicken wings so you don’t go into withdrawal when the shortage happens. Maybe try to visit a chickenadone clinic.
