I was so excited to see Rush getting some overdue recognition. They were inducted into the Hollywood Rockwalk yesterday and I was so happy to be in attendance and to be able to share the experience with our KCAL Rockers. With more than 40 million records sold worldwide, Geddy Lee, Neil Peart and Alex Lifeson remain one of the most inventive and compelling rock groups in history. Rush has placed third with the most consecutive gold/platinum studio albums, topped only by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. They are currently on tour in support of their 20th studio album, Clockwork Angels.

I had the pleasure of speaking to Myles Kennedy, who is currently touring with Slash and is the vocalist on Slash’s recent album Apocalyptic Love. Myles also fronts the band Alter Bridge.

I’ve conducted many interviews with Matt Sorum over the years and he is still very forthcoming and thoughtful about his answers. From the Ludwig booth at NAMM 2012, we talk about the recent one off show with Scott Weiland and the other members of Velvet Revolver and the possibilities of reuniting all the original members in the future. Matt is also very involved with “giving back” and speaks about his recent charitable works with Global Sound Lodge and Wounded Warriors.

I walked into the entrance of NAMM 2012 in Anaheim, CA on Saturday, January 21st, stopped to figure out where I was going to go first, then turned around to find Chad Smith, drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, standing right in front of me. So I HAD to ask him for an interview. I stalked him all the way to the Sabian Cymbals booth where he was weakened by my fluttering eyelashes and soon stopped to give me an interview. Chad has a signature Holy China cymbal out with Sabian, he talks about the current hiatus of the band and is just generally goofy. Chad is always fun to talk speak with. You’re never quite sure what he’s going to say.

Winter NAMM brings new surprises every year. This year I had the pleasure of interviewing Megadeth bassist Dave Ellefson. Dave talks at length about his EMG Pickups, Jackson, rejoining Megadeth, the recent Big 4 Tour, Gigantour, Dave Mustaine and the number 13, and so much more. He was very forthcoming and I really enjoyed our converstation.

Bon Jovi has always been one of my favorite bands. So I’m ALWAYS happy when I run into any member of the band. Hugh McDonald, bass player for Bon Jovi is one that I’m lucky enough to see every year at NAMM and he’s always wonderfully willing to give me a few minutes of his time. Here are seven minutes and thirty-two seconds of Hugh McDonald’s time. He fills us in on the latest with Bon Jovi, his bass of choice, the rumors of Jon’s death and why he hates his son.

While attending the NAMM 2012 convention in Anaheim, CA on January 20th, I happened upon Iron Maiden’s Nicko McBrain signing autographs. He was in simply a jolly good mood and was kind enough to stop signing all autographs in order to give you, the KCAL listener, the latest on what’s happening in the world of Iron Maiden. Unfortunately, he was feeling a bit flirtatious and was somewhat distracted by an attractive passerby to give us too many details. Silly, pretty much sums up this interview but it was all good fun. Enjoy!!

Here’s the rest of my time with Judas Priest’s Rob Halford. If you’ve never met him, I have to tell you that he’s one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet.
