Damn, that is one fine album all the way through!
Only one last piece of business to take care of, and that was to draw a name of one of the thousands of KCAL Rockers that voted over the course of the tournament. So congratulations to Daniel Rehome from Redlands, the winner of all 64 of the contenders from our friends at The Mad Platter in Riverside!
We had some amazingly close battles, and a ton of fun with this contest. Not to mention all of the discussions and arguments it sparked across the Empire. Thank you for all of your votes and participation. You Rock!!!!

Alice in Chains are getting ready to release their new album, and they’ve teamed up with the comedy web site Funny Or Die to make an awesome “mockumentary” called AIC 23, featuring a ton of people you may recognize…enjoy!

Cal Jam 2! If you were part of the 300,000 people that were there you may remember it. Or part of it, anyway. Let’s face it, there was a lot of stuff being consumed there. I cruised there in young teenage style in my older brother’s van. Here are a few reminders of what happened back in the day…

If you were lucky enough to score tickets and were there, this is a nice reminder. If you didn’t get a chance to see Green Day playing their 22 song set at the Fox Theater on Sunday night in Pomona, in their first live show since lead singer, Billy Joe Armstrong, had a meltdown on stage in Las Vegas and went though a stint in rehab, here is some fan video of what it looked like. The good news is that this was just a warm up show for their upcoming tour, and we’ll all be able to see them at the Los Angeles Sports Arena on Thursday, April 18th.

See that? That is what Vance Albitz’s living room is looking like lately. If we have our way, it is gonna look a lot more packed than that in the next few days! I don’t know if you had a chance to hear him with Stu, Tiffany, and Jimbo this morning, but that is a young man with a great plan. After reading an article asking some of our troops what they would most like to get in a box from home where the answer was “A couple of gloves and a ball so we could play catch”, Vance started up the Gloves4Troops web site with his father, and set a goal of collecting 1000 gloves and balls to send out to our troops overseas. Such a pure and simple joy, playing catch, and all of us here at KCAL were moved to find some way to help out. Now Vance plays minor league ball in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, and he’s got to report to spring training on February 18th, so it’s up to us to help him get closer to his goal before then.

If you’ve got an old glove taking up space in the garage, or a few baseballs that are in good shape that you could manage to live without, or if you’ve got 20 bucks that you could kick down to help sponsor sending a box to our troops overseas, please help out. Check out his web site to see how to get your things to him, or bring your gloves or balls down to the station and we’ll get them to him for you. To make it even easier for you to join the effort, we’ll be sending the KCAL Crew out to the various corners of the I.E. over the next few days. Listen in to find out when we’ll be in your neighborhood! Here’s a really cool article that was written about Vance on ESPN too…

Check this out. This Thursday night there is going to be a celebrity roast of Dee Snider at The Grove in Anaheim presented by Guitar World Magazine and Revolver Magazine. We’re talking about some big names being there too. It’ll feature Penn Jillette from Penn & Teller as the roast master. The panel will include Zakk Wylde from Ozzy’s band and Black Label Society, Scott Ian from Anthrax, Lita Ford, and a bunch more. And, it’ll be broadcast live on AXS TV. Our friends at the charity Music Saves Lives have a package that includes a couple of seats at a table for the roast, dinner and drinks, and red carpet viewing. They’re giving them away to the person who has highest donation to the charity by Thursday morning at 9am. If you’d like to get in on it, hit their page that is selling tickets for their concert coming up next month. You don’t have to buy tickets to their concert, but you can if you like, of course! Anyway, make the donation in the box below where you buy tickets, and good luck on hitting the fun on Thursday night!
